BIFURCATED STAIRS

The dramatic allure and flair of stairs has always grabbed my attention –I believe that stairs should be celebrated whenever possible, and this was the inspiration for this design. This staircase is based on one that I saw in an old Joan Crawford movie that captivated me long-term. Finding an example of the staircase in-person at Rosecliff in Newport, RI catapulted me into drawing and modeling my very own rendition. Through analysis, it is very clear that a stair like this needs support in the middle landing, as anchoring at the top and bottom is structurally insufficient; anchoring the stairs on the walls with a beam that runs through the landing is enough to keep the stairs from collapsing
